The Illustrator is in love with drawing. He or she has vast knowledge, an overflowing imagination and a strong personality. Capable of personifying the characters of a children’s tale, illustrating the cover of a novel, or a press article, or even of creating visuals for advertising, he or she generally possesses a wide technical range, from traditional techniques (inks, watercolour, felts…) to computer graphic techniques, and 3D. Illustrators tend to work alone and have an independent status (freelance). Clients include publishers, the press and communication agencies. He or she needs to maintain his/her network, canvass, propose his/her work, try and get orders. As experience grows, so does the press-book. Reputation is established and the process is reversed : now it is the clients, publishers and agencies who seek out the illustrator for his/her style and personality.
